THE COOLER WEATHER MAKES FOR GOOD FISHING IN FRESHWATER. CHIEF METEOROLOGIST JASON SMITH TAKES US BASS FISHING ON THIS WEEK’S FOX TEN OUTDOORS.

The white pelicans gather in big flocks. Ducks are migrating south. And, alligators are staying close to the bank and soaking up the sun. It’s also a great time of year to target bass. I recently headed out with local tournament angler Logan Marston to do a little pre-fishing before the City Championship.

We started out pitching spinner baits against the grass. “There we go, I knew that was coming! That’s a good one there, yeah! Wow. Logan you are on fire.” “That’s definitely the best one, that’s a good fish there, he is probably about 2, probably a bit bigger.

” This time of year, the north winds blow the water out of the shallow bays. The fish begin to transition to the creeks and bayous. These chunky bass are feeding on shrimp. They love a small spinner bait with gold blades.

“Out here off the banks, he hasn’t come up yet, so we don’t know what we’ve got. It’s a bass, it’s a bass it’s a bass, and it’s a fine one look at that. That’s a good one there! Oh yeah! Nice bass there on this pink spinner bait.

” “The water color is just right in here, good clarity.” Logan and I caught bass after bass, boating 25 fish in our short morning trip. We also caught quite a few redfish, and I’ll show you that great footage next week.
