Worms and shrimp have almost always outfished hotdogs, dough baits, and chicken livers for me when catfishing for 1-5lb pansized catfish.
Worms on a 1/0 circle and 20 lb test line is my favorite option for catching pansized catfish on any body of water, mainly because they stay on the hook so well and catfish seem to love them.
Dough baits and hot dogs are convenient but I usually only have luck if I’m fishing a stocked pond and not larger lakes and streams (that’s not to say they don’t work, I just usually get significantly fewer bites on these baits when fishing with worms or shrimp at the same time).
If targeting larger catfish try using live bait or fresh cut bait (like bluegills or gizzard shad or skipjack) and target large bodies of water.
